Power washing is one of the exterior cleaning
methods that experts, even the NPS (National Park Service) firmly recommends
against:
"Applying high pressure water cleaning methods that will damage historic
masonry and the mortar joints. ...Chemical or physical treatments, if
appropriate, will be undertaken using the gentlest means possible. Treatments
that cause damage to historic materials will not be used."
